How To Measure Your Daybed For A Custom Cushion

Use this guide for daybeds, including standard twin-sized frames. You need three dimensions: Thickness, Width, and Depth. Thickness ranges from 2 to 6 inches — thicker options suit daybeds used regularly for sleeping.

Step 1 — Start here

Choose the cushion thickness

Select a thickness between 2 and 6 inches. For daybeds used primarily for sitting, 3 to 4 inches is standard. For daybeds used regularly for sleeping, 5 to 6 inches provides better support. Check that your chosen thickness does not rise above the armrests or backboard.

Step 2

Measure the width

Measure from the inside of the left arm frame to the inside of the right arm frame — the full span of the sleeping or seating surface.

Measure the frame, not an old mattress or cushion

Old mattresses and pads lose shape and compress unevenly. Measuring them will produce an inaccurate order. Always measure the inside of the bare daybed frame directly.

Step 3

Measure the depth

Measure from the front edge of the frame to the back panel or headboard — the full front-to-back length of the surface area. For frames with slats, measure the inside frame edge to inside frame edge, not across the slats.

Corner shape

Daybed cushions are made with squared corners as standard to fit flush against the frame panels on all four sides.

Squared corners 90° on all four corners. Fits flush against frame panels.

Measuring tips

The book method

Stack books on the slats or platform to test thickness before ordering. Make sure the stack does not rise above the armrests or backboard at your chosen height.

Use a rigid tape measure

A steel retractable tape stays straight across long daybed spans. Flexible tape sags over length and will give you a reading that is slightly too short.

Round to the nearest ½"

We produce cushions in ½" increments. Round each measurement to the nearest half-inch before entering dimensions at checkout.

Measure twice

Take each measurement twice and compare. If the readings differ, take a third and use the middle value — especially important on long frames where tape position can shift.
