How to Measure an Ottoman for a Custom Cushion
Use this guide to measure for ottomans, footstools, and rectangular footrests. Most styles need just three dimensions: Thickness, Width, and Depth.
Choose the cushion thickness
Select a thickness between 2 and 5 inches. For a standard footrest, 3 to 4 inches is the most comfortable range. If you are unsure, use the book method in the tips section below.
Measure the width
Measure side to side across the top of the ottoman frame — the full area you want the cushion to cover.
Foam flattens and fabric stretches over time. Measuring an old cushion will give you the wrong dimensions. Always measure the bare wood or upholstered frame directly.
Measure the depth
Measure from the front edge to the back edge of the ottoman top. For irregular or non-rectangular frames, measure at the longest and widest points and contact us — we can cut custom shapes.

Measuring tips
Stack books on the ottoman until the height feels right for resting your feet. Measure the stack to find your ideal cushion thickness before committing.
A steel retractable tape gives straight, consistent readings. Avoid soft tailor's tape — it stretches and causes sizing errors.
We produce cushions in ½" increments. Round each measurement to the nearest half-inch before entering dimensions at checkout.
Take each measurement twice and compare. If the readings differ, take a third and use the middle value.
